Privacy Policy

ForkTails is a collaborative storytelling platform operated by CronoWare LLC ("we", "us"). This policy describes what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. If you have questions, contact us at [email protected].

Information we collect

  • Account information. Your email address, display name, username, and — if you sign up with a password — a hashed version of your password (we never store the password itself).
  • Discord profile. If you sign in with Discord, we receive your Discord account ID, email address, and avatar from Discord.
  • Content you post. Story premises, story turns, comments, votes, and reports you submit are stored and — except for votes and reports — displayed publicly with your display name.
  • Usage data. Story view counts and short-lived, IP-derived rate-limiting keys used to prevent abuse. We do not run advertising or third-party analytics trackers.

Cookies

We use only strictly necessary cookies: an authentication session cookie that keeps you signed in. There are no advertising or tracking cookies.

How we use your information

  • To operate the platform: displaying stories, turns, and comments, enforcing turn claims, and sending you claim reminders.
  • To send transactional email (account verification, password resets, claim reminders) via our email provider, Resend.
  • Automated content safety review.When you submit a story premise, turn, comment, or display name, the text is processed by Anthropic's Claude API to check it against our community guidelines before it is accepted. This processing happens at submission time and is used only for content safety.
  • To respond to reports of content that may violate our community guidelines.

Service providers

We use a small number of infrastructure providers to run ForkTails: Vercel (hosting), Neon (PostgreSQL database), Resend (transactional email), Upstash (rate limiting), and Anthropic (automated content safety review). Each processes data only as needed to provide their service. We do not sell your personal information.

Data retention and deletion

You can delete your account at any time from Settings. When you do, we anonymize your account: your email, display name, and password are removed or replaced, your comments are redacted to "[deleted]", and your votes, claims, and notifications are deleted. Story turns you contributed are preserved but anonymized — they remain part of the collaborative stories other writers built on, no longer attributed to you.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, export, or delete your personal information. Most of these are available directly in Settings; for anything else, email [email protected] and we will respond within 30 days.

Children

ForkTails is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child under 13 has created an account, contact us and we will delete it.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be announced on the site, and the effective date above will be updated.
